Sidney Booker is a dedicated educator, mentor, and community leader whose decades of service have left a lasting impact on the lives of countless students and families. As a long-time coach at Dunbar High School, Coach Booker has been more than just a respected figure in athletics—he has been a steady presence, a mentor, and a source of guidance for generations of young people.
His contributions extend far beyond the field. Through his leadership in youth sports and school programs, Coach Booker has created opportunities for students to grow not only as athletes, but as individuals of character. He has consistently used sports as a vehicle to teach discipline, accountability, and resilience—life lessons that carry far beyond the game.

Rev. Dr. David I. Fox is a highly distinguished leader, educator, and civil rights advocate whose lifelong commitment to justice, unity, and community advancement has left an indelible mark on the Dayton region. A Dayton native, Dr. Fox has combined academic excellence—earning advanced degrees in education and ministry with a focus on social justice—with transformative leadership across faith and civic spaces. He is widely recognized for spearheading the Peace Bridge initiative and expanding it into a powerful, week-long celebration promoting racial harmony, as well as for growing the city’s Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration into one of the region’s most impactful movements for peace and nonviolence. His service spans decades of advocacy, including leadership roles with the NAACP, Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and numerous interfaith and community organizations. Lawrence Head Jr. is a distinguished leader whose extraordinary career reflects over five decades of unwavering commitment to both education and ministry. Demonstrating dual-vocational excellence, he has simultaneously shaped lives in the classroom and uplifted communities through music ministry, sustaining a legacy of excellence across generations. His impact is marked not only by his ability to preserve and professionalize gospel music traditions in Dayton, but also by his dedication to education—teaching students from high school to university settings, and ultimately extending his reach into correctional education to provide literacy and second chances to those often overlooked. Deborah Howard is a distinguished and transformative educational leader whose impact is defined by innovation, excellence, and an unwavering commitment to student success. As Principal of Fulton Elementary School, she has driven measurable academic growth while cultivating a culture of high expectations, accountability, and care. Her visionary leadership has led to the creation of unique, student-centered programs, including the school’s first Student Lighthouse and Junior Lighthouse Teams, which empower students to lead, build confidence, and shape a positive school culture. Under her direction, Fulton Elementary also established the district’s only student drumline, expanding opportunities for artistic expression, teamwork, and community engagement. Nhyere Holt is a distinguished educator and quiet pillar of excellence whose more than three decades of service to Dayton Public Schools and the broader community reflect unwavering dedication, leadership, and impact. As a certified special education teacher, she has consistently advocated for students by ensuring high-quality instructional support and developing strong, effective IEPs that drive student success. Her career—spanning Wilbur Wright and Ponitz Career Technology Center—demonstrates both longevity and a deep commitment to educational continuity and stability. As the founder of the Dakota Street Drill Team and Drumming Program, Ms. Hugee introduced a powerful model that blended cultural expression with mentorship and leadership development. A pioneer in public service, she broke historic barriers as the first African American woman elected to the Ohio State Senate and later as the first woman Mayor of Dayton, where her leadership was marked by courage, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to equity and community progress. As the owner of Beautifime Hair Salon, she has transformed her business into a hub of empowerment and outreach, most notably through her annual Back-to-School Hair Drive, where she provides free hair services to children—ensuring they return to school with confidence and pride. Linda Neal is a distinguished educator, trailblazer, and lifelong advocate for student success whose career reflects both excellence and resilience. A native of Hope and Texarkana, Arkansas, she excelled academically, earning dual degrees in chemistry and mathematics from Arkansas AM&N College (now UAPB) and a teaching certificate, returning to student teach at a school she was once barred from attending due to segregation. After relocating to Dayton in 1971, she dedicated 35 years to Dayton Public Schools, shaping countless lives as a math and science teacher across multiple schools while continuing her own professional growth through a master’s degree and principal licensure. Beyond the classroom, her leadership as an Athletic Director for 25 years—most notably at Meadowdale High School—cemented her legacy, including becoming the first African American female in DPS to earn the prestigious Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) designation. Known for her commitment to mentorship, tutoring, and uplifting students—especially during critical testing periods—Ms. Neal’s impact extends far beyond academics. Her recognition as an NFL Teacher of the Year nominee, submitted by a former student, is a powerful testament to her influence. Her life’s work embodies perseverance, leadership, and an unwavering belief in the transformative power of education.
Jacqueline “Jackie” Ringer is a distinguished educator and transformational leader whose decades of service have left an enduring impact on Dayton Public Schools and the broader educational community. With a remarkable 35-year career, she rose from classroom teacher to principal of Kiser Elementary School, where her leadership was marked by innovation and excellence, including advancing the district’s Challenger Center—an elite, hands-on learning environment that fostered communication, collaboration, and critical thinking among students and staff. Even after retirement, Ms. Ringer’s commitment to education did not waver, as she returned to serve as Associate Director of Career Programs and continued mentoring teachers and principals across the district. Widely regarded as a “lead principal,” she has been a trusted source of guidance and inspiration, shaping both student success and leadership capacity in others. Angela Wilson is a distinguished servant-leader whose life’s work reflects an extraordinary commitment to youth development, community service, and unwavering compassion. A retired health inspector for Montgomery County, she played a vital role in supporting West Dayton businesses through personalized coaching and guidance, helping ensure their long-term success. Beyond her professional career, Angela’s true legacy is found in her decades of mentorship through dance and cheer, where she has empowered young people—particularly those facing challenging circumstances—to find confidence, discipline, and purpose. As the founder of the Diamonds and Pearls youth organization, she has impacted generations by creating opportunities for growth, leadership, and self-expression. Her service is deeply personal, often extending beyond programs as she has supported families with clothing, essentials, and resources, even at her own expense. A product of foster care herself, Angela embodies resilience and lives by a “no child left behind” philosophy, raising seven children while continuing to serve others. Even while facing her own health challenges, she remains committed to giving back—launching free dance programs to ensure access for all.
